“You’ve shed too many of these in your life,” he said.
“But these are happy tears.”
“I’m glad.” Still, he wiped away a fresh batch. “I know Blue Falls holds bad memories for you, but together we could make enough good ones to hopefully make the bad ones a distant memory.”
When he lowered himself to one knee in front of her and pulled a ring from the same pocket that had held Mia’s card, she didn’t even wait for him to ask the question. Instead, she dropped down in front of him and kissed him with such intensity that they both fell over onto the floor.
They dissolved into laughter, and it felt so good. He felt perfect, all warm and muscled beneath her hands. As the laughter faded, she saw hunger in his eyes a moment before he framed her face with his hands and kissed her deeply. With no furniture in the house, they made love in the middle of the living room floor. When Jake brought her to glorious climax, she collapsed against his chest.
Jake smoothed her hair away from her face and kissed her forehead. “So, I’m guessing the answer to the question I didn’t get to ask is yes.”
Talia lifted her head to look at him. “Most definitely yes.”
“Are you okay with moving back to Blue Falls? Because if not, I can talk to Mia about moving out here.”
Talia shook her head. “I don’t want to take her from the only home she’s ever known. And nothing is tying me here anymore.”
“You’re sure?”
She nodded. “You said we could make new, happy memories.” She ran her fingertip along his lips. “We already have.” Wanting him all over again, she shifted atop him and let her hands wander.
Jake laughed. “Aren’t you afraid someone will see us? Like the new owners of the house.”
“I have this house for twenty-four more hours. I suggest we use every one of them.”
Jake smiled as he wrapped his arms around her and rolled her beneath him. As he moved into position between her legs, he dropped a playful kiss on her lips. “I think that’s an excellent idea.”
